How to Email Your Job Application
- The Subject Line: Make it clear. Example: “Application for Digital Marketer - [Your Name]”
- The Salutation: Address the recruiter by name if possible, or use “Dear Hiring Manager.”
- The Body: Write a 3-4 sentence mini-cover letter stating who you are and why you fit the role.
- The Sign-off: “Best regards, [Your Name] + [Phone Number]”
- The Attachment: Ensure your CV is attached as a PDF, named
[Firstname_Lastname_CV.pdf].
You finally formatted your CV perfectly. You found the hiring manager’s email address.
Then you send an email with no subject line, a blank body, and an attachment named Document_1(Final)_Edited.docx.
Are you actively trying to sabotage yourself?
The Blank Email Epidemic
A blank email says, “I am lazy and I lack basic corporate etiquette.”
Even worse is the email body that just says: “Find attached.” Am I a dog? Why are you commanding me to find your attachment?
The Email Body is Your Pitch
When you email your CV directly, the email body acts as your cover letter. It is your elevator pitch.
Keep it brief. “Dear Hiring Manager, I am writing to apply for the Accountant role advertised on LinkedIn. With 3 years of experience managing accounts for tech startups, I am confident in my ability to streamline your financial reporting. Please find my CV attached.”
It’s polite, it’s professional, and it makes me actually want to open the attachment.
