Essential Items for NYSC Orientation Camp
Don’t pack your whole house to NYSC camp. You are going for 21 days, not relocating to Canada. If you forget essentials, the Mammy market will overcharge you.
Here are the absolute must-haves for NYSC camp:
- Documents: Call-up letter, Green Card, medical fitness certificate, school ID, statement of result, and 20+ passport photographs.
- White Essentials: At least 4-5 pairs of white round-neck shirts and white shorts. The ones NYSC gives you will likely be oversized or transparent.
- Waist Pouch: This is your life. Your money, phone, and power bank live here. If you lose it, you will cry premium tears.
- Provisions: Cereal, milk, garri, and biscuits. Camp food is a gamble. Sometimes it’s okay, sometimes it’s an experiment gone wrong.
- Basic Medical Kit: Paracetamol, anti-malaria drugs, hand sanitizer, and a mosquito net.
The Truth About Camp Life
Camp is stressful. You will wake up at 4 AM to the sound of a bugle. You will stand in the sun. You will match until your legs ache.
But it is also the most fun part of the service year. So pack light, pack smart, and save some cash for the Mammy market because you will end up eating noodles at 10 PM.
Don’t carry unnecessary things like pressing irons (they might seize it) or laptops (nowhere safe to keep it, and you won’t have time). Focus on survival.
