The Final Hurdle: POP

You have survived 11 months of CDS, clearance, and a frustrating PPA. Now it’s time for POP. Do not mess this up, because without that certificate, your Nigerian corporate career cannot officially start.

To collect your NYSC certificate smoothly, ensure you have:

  • Final Clearance from PPA: Your boss must sign a letter stating you have completed your assignment and are not owing the organization anything.
  • NYSC ID Card: You must submit your original NYSC ID card. If you lost it, you will need a police report and a sworn affidavit, which takes time and money.
  • CDS Clearance: Your CDS schedule officer must clear you for attending meetings and paying your dues.

Check Your Details Immediately

When they hand you the certificate, do not just take pictures and run away. Look at it carefully.

Check your name spelling. Check the dates. Check your state of origin. If there is a mistake, return it immediately for correction. Fixing an error on your NYSC certificate after you have left the state is a bureaucratic nightmare that can cost you a job offer.
