The Medical Certificate Wahala
Before you can enter NYSC orientation camp, you must present a Medical Certificate of Fitness. Without it, they will turn you back at the gate. It must be from a recognized government hospital or military clinic.
Here is how to get it without wasting your whole week:
- Go Early: Government hospitals are notoriously slow. Arrive by 7 AM to beat the crowd and get your file opened.
- Know the Required Tests: The standard tests include HIV, Genotype, Blood Group, PCV, Urinalysis, and sometimes a chest X-ray.
- Bring Cash: Even though it’s a government hospital, you will pay for the tests, the card, and the doctor’s signature. Have at least N10,000 cash on you.
- Make Photocopies: Once you get the original certificate, make at least 5 photocopies. Keep the original safe; you will submit one copy at the camp gate.
Don’t Fake It
A lot of people try to forge this certificate at cybercafes. Don’t do it. NYSC doctors randomly verify these documents in camp. If you are caught with a fake medical report, you will be decamped and handed over to the police. It’s not worth the risk. Just go to the hospital and do it right.
