The Follow-Up Protocol

  1. Send a Thank You Email: Within 24 hours of the interview.
  2. Wait for the Deadline: If they said two weeks, wait two weeks.
  3. Send ONE Follow-Up: A brief, polite email asking for updates.
  4. Move On: Don’t stalk the HR manager on LinkedIn.

There is a fine line between enthusiastic and desperate. Sending me a “Thank You” email the next day? Professional. Calling my personal number at 8 PM to ask if you got the job? Disrespectful.

Keep your follow-ups concise. “Dear Chukwudi, thank you for the opportunity to interview last week. I am following up on the status of my application as I am very excited about the prospect of joining the team.” If I don’t reply, I’m busy, or you didn’t get it. Keep applying elsewhere.
