The Clearance Routine
Every month, you must do biometric clearance to prove you are still alive and working at your PPA. If you fail to clear, you will not receive your 33k allawee. It is that simple.
To ensure your clearance goes smoothly:
- Get Your Clearance Letter Early: Your PPA boss must sign a letter confirming you came to work that month. Don’t wait until the last day to ask for it.
- Do the Biometrics Early: Don’t wait until the portal is closing and the server starts crashing. Do your thumbprint in the first few days.
- Submit to the LGI: Take the signed letter to your Local Government Inspector (LGI). Be respectful. The LGI holds the key to your allawee.
The “Ghost Corper” Trap
Some corpers think they can negotiate with their PPA, travel home to Lagos, and just pay someone to do their thumbprint. NYSC has updated their systems. If you are caught as a ghost corper, your service year will be extended, or you will be handed over to the police for defrauding the government.
Don’t play games with clearance. It is a minor inconvenience that ensures you get paid. If you must travel, apply for an official leave pass from your PPA and your LGI.
